The 'HADES x Women in Prison' blanket in walnut brown and sky blue.
The blanket design was brought to life when we worked with Women in Prison running a workshop at HMS Styal (Cheshire, England), in which 15 women created designs based on the topics of Public Protest; the changes they’d like to see in wider society and within the prison system. The design incorporates eyes, a recurring motif expressed by the group, with many of the women talking of always being watched and a poem written by one of the workshop's attendees -
Hell, bang there goes the door.
Now you've made friends things start to move fast
You still have a cry
Always seen
Haven't walked in their shoes.
Women in Prison are a UK charity that delivers support for women affected by the criminal justice system; in prisons, in the community and through their Women's Centres.
Women in Prison's work highlights that the root causes of crime are mental ill-health, domestic abuse, insecure housing and poverty. Most women in prison are there because of the inequalities that they face, with nearly two thirds having experienced domestic abuse and the majority of women reporting mental health problems.
Like Women in Prison, we advocate for effective community programmes and women's centres that enable women to make permanent changes in their lives.
100% of gross profits (this is total revenue minus the cost of the wool used in the blanket and the labour costs to craft the blanket) from the blanket will go towards the work that Women in Prison do.
Made in England from 100% lambswool.
Approx 55 x 27 inches.
