AW24: HADES X TILDA SWINTON ZINE

HADES X Tilda Swinton Logo

Each piece in the Tilda Swinton collection is inspired by Tilda herself, as well as four films from her filmography: Female Perversions (1996), Last of England (1987), Orlando (1992) and Suspiria (2018).

As you can imagine, choosing only four Tilda films is not easy. Even as we were in production, we would say, “why didn’t we include The Seasons in Quincy?” or, “we really ought to have included The Human Voice, that’s Tilda, Almodóvar and Jean Cocteau”. Alas, only a much larger collection would come close to capturing Tilda’s filmography, so we made our choices!

The collection was designed via back and forth over e-mail and culminated in a joint visit to our Hawick factory. You’ll find photographs of this visit included in this zine, as well as interviews with the people who made your knit.

Since our inception, HADES has championed craftsmanship and we recognise that it is culturally and socially important that craft and industry in the UK is supported to safeguard its future. On the back page of the zine, we created a manifesto which articulates our guiding principles and our ambitions for change in the way that we make and buy clothes.

The zine also plays home to photos of the collection we shot at Aston Hall. We chose this Jacobean house as the backdrop for the collection because it is filled with beauty and eccentricity and symbolic significance. The house was attacked by Parliamentarians during the English civil war and has a large cannonball hole in the grand oak staircase. We love the visual metaphor of revolution and change amidst tradition and history – this is something that resonates here at HADES studio, we believe in both heritage and radicalism.
