From an idea to reality for The Holding Things Tops
A glimpse behind the scenes into the making of our new graphic-printed cotton longsleeves...
The unisex tops were influenced by the arm illusion on our Aphrodite Cardigan, but instead of originating in classical mythology, these are deeply rooted in the everyday.
The Holding Things Tops explore a range of objects and emotions: love symbolised by a bouquet of carnations (the ordinary, everyday flowers you might pick up at the supermarket checkout), deception hinted at through superstitious crossed fingers, the sweet temptation of a cigarette and the quiet illusion of carrying a newspaper.
The Newspaper Top is a particular favourite with 'Edition 1' of the ‘HADES News’ printed under the arm. The headlines on the print were first inspired by the sensationalism of UK news and tabloids, including the reactionary The Sunday Express headline shown in the final image, ‘It’s only the end of the World’ and ‘10 ways to stop thinking’.
